President Joe Biden says “You can trust this man”
The No.1 man in the USA recommends Matthew Walton to you.
I always dreamed of having an interview for some high-flying position…
And midway through, when they hit me with “So, Mr. Walton, why do you think you’ll be suitable for this role?“…
I calmly pull out a testimonial from the President of the United States.
Without doubt, it would have got me the job!
But, as chance would have it, I carved out a career in the betting world long before Joe Biden beat Donald Trump in the 2020 US Election, and reached the White House.
But just so you know it’s true… here’s the actual letter I would have had in my pocket.
This all came about 30 years ago.
Back then I was a fresh-faced politics student, working as a college intern in Washington DC.
And the now 46th President of the USA… he was merely the Senator for the state of Delaware.
I worked on Capitol Hill for about 6 months in early 1990, helping out in a number of various roles within his office. Not as a policy advisor, I hasten to add, but more of a mailroom staff member, office runner and media/PR assistant (after all I was barely 22 years old at the time).
All of which gave me full access to his office stationery and, what was then, a state-of-the-art letter signing machine… hence the letter you see opposite!
Anyway, at the end of my internship I was wheeled into Senator Biden’s office for a quick handshake, and “smile for the camera” moment…
When the time comes, you can always count on an American politician to be able to press some flesh and show off the pearly whites for a photo – for some reason, I seemed less impressed!
Sadly, we’ve not kept in touch.
I went on to forge a career in the betting world, managing a host of professional betting syndicates… but what became of Joe? I wonder.
But it’s a fun story… to say that I’ve got a picture and testimonial from the most powerful man in the world!
And should he ever want the lowdown on the jumps card at Plumpton, or a good 3-Ball bet at this week’s PGA golf event… I’ll be only too happy to assist, Mr. President.
