Invaluable betting advice from Mssrs. Willoughby & Taylor
As I often say, with regards to this game (betting) every day is a school day.
We are all constantly learning, applying, adapting, refining.
You never know it all!
And often’s the case that in order to do this, and progress as bettors, we need to go back to the classroom and take a little education on board – basic erudition for some, a little revision for others.
So I came across this extremely watchable video on At The Races…
We have a couple of expert judges (and both are) – James Willoughby and Hugh Taylor – offering up a few wise words about betting, and in this instance the “effect of randomness“.
For any winning punter, or mildly frustated loser, it makes for very informative viewing.

Certainly helps you to understand a little more about the underlying trends in betting which are often misinterpreted by the casual observer… and even how a proven long-term winner can appear like a hapless amateur (if viewed through the wrong end of the telescope).
But in reinforces what I say all along about the services I offer, and those of others… that they do need to be seen as a whole and not judged (often pre-judged) on the basis of just a handful of bets.
Likewise with your own betting, don’t be put off, or unduly influenced, by short-term “random” events. You have to let the data play out, and the results to be assessed in their entirety, before making a decision.
OPINION: Remember, even those we deem to be proven, shrewd winning backers/tipsters lose. And often endure long losing runs – don’t win every month, or even every year. Does this make them bad? No, of course not. You just need to understand variance, probability and the way that betting success isn’t a linear process. There will be more than the odd bump in the road. But stick at it, and you can win.
