The jewel in National Hunt racing’s crown, Cheltenham Racecourse plays host to the best jumping action in the world from 350 spectacular acres in the shadow of Cleeve Hill in the beautiful Cotswold hills.
Whether you’re visiting on a crisp bright October day or a balmy evening in May, you’ll feel that unmistakeable Cheltenham magic. The racing, the setting, the tradition and history, the shared sense of enjoyment all combine to give everyone, from those sampling our finest hospitality to the racegoers on the course, an experience they’ll never forget.
The roar of the crowd as the tapes rise for the first race of the Festival each year tells you everything you need to know – 12 months of waiting is over!
Over the course of the week, around 230,000 people visit the course to witness the action and soak up the atmosphere and across the country, well over £500 million is wagered on the outcome of the 24 races.
The feature race on Tuesday is the Champion Hurdle, the most sought after prize anywhere for 2 miles hurdlers.
Wednesday sees the Queen Mother Champion Chase take centre stage, as the best two mile chasers produce a fast and furious contest over the famous Cheltenham fences.
On Thursday, the long distance hurdlers contest the World Hurdle. Only the brave and the strong prevail in this three mile contest.
Then comes Friday and the highlight of the entire Jump season: the Cheltenham Gold Cup. This is the race that every owner trainer and jockey dreams of winning and it takes a very special horse to win more than once.
